Temperature and humidity control of chickens

The right temperature

Temperature is the key to the success or failure of brooding. Brooding temperature refers to the temperature of the brood chamber and brooders. The temperature of the brooding room is lower than the temperature of the brooder's edge, and the temperature of the brooder's edge is lower than the temperature in the brooder. Normally, the suitable temperature for the brooding period is: 1st to 2nd day of age, brooder temperature is 35°C, room temperature is 24°C; 1 week old, brooder temperature is 32°C~35°C, indoor temperature is 24 °C; 2 weeks old, brooder temperature is 29°C~32°C, room temperature is 21°C~24°C; 3 weeks old, brooder temperature is 27°C~29°C, room temperature is 18°C~21°C; 4 weeks After age, the brooder temperature was 21°C and the room temperature was 16°C to 24°C.

To determine whether the temperature is appropriate, the most reliable method is to observe the dynamics of the chick except for the temperature meter. When the temperature is right, the chicks are lively, feathers are smooth and tidy, appetite is exuberant, legs are stretched, legs are agile, sleep is quiet, heads slept and legs are slept, and chicks are evenly spread around the heat source; when the temperature is too low, the chicks show sluggish behavior. , necking, eyes closed screaming, disturbed sleep, chicks concentrated near the heat source, squeezing each other, stacked layers; when the temperature is too high, the chicken away from heat, gasping mouth, breathing faster, often drinking water. Therefore, you must always observe the dynamics of the chicks and adjust the temperature in time.

Suitable humidity

A 10-day-old chick needs higher room temperature, but when the room temperature increases, the relative humidity decreases. Room temperature increased by 1°C and humidity decreased by 3.5% to 4%. Chicks are prone to dehydration when they live in an excessively dry environment. They are characterized by increased drinking water, dry toes, feathers that can easily fall off, irregular development, and respiratory tract infections caused by dust that can irritate the respiratory tract. Therefore, for chicks older than 10 days, increase the humidity in the room and keep the relative humidity between 60% and 70%. After 10 days of age, the amount of respiration, drinking water, and excretion of chicks increased accordingly, and the interior was prone to dampness. At this time, attention should be paid to ventilation and ventilation, and bedding should be changed frequently to reduce the humidity. The relative humidity was generally maintained at 55% to 60%. Avoid coccidiosis and mycosis.

Indoor relative humidity is often measured using a wet-bulb thermometer. The temperature indicated by the wet and dry bulb thermometer is the temperature in the air, and the temperature indicated by the wet bulb thermometer surrounded by the gauze soaked in water is the wet bulb temperature. The difference in temperature between wet and dry balls is the relative saturation of the moisture in the air.
