Technical Measures for Prevention of Frozen Wheat Damage
(1) Use anti-freeze varieties, sowing them at appropriate time and cultivating strong seedlings.
(2) Apply fertilizer early. Fertilization in early spring of wheat can make up for winter soil fertility, increase nutrient accumulation, promote the growth of young wheat seedlings, and resist or reduce early spring freezing injury. Especially in the winter season when the temperature is high, the wheat seedlings continue to grow, and the soil consumption is high, fertilization in early spring is particularly important.
(3) Timely plan to promote its growth. When the soil returns to slurry, it can be used to loosen the soil, protect the earthworms, increase the temperature, and eliminate weeds, thus enhancing the ability of the wheat seedlings to protect the cold. According to historical experience, the average ground temperature in 5 cm soil layers during daytime can be increased by 0.5 to 1°C after 7 to 10 days of general scratching, which is beneficial to the promotion of root development and nutrient conversion.
(4) Repression and control to ensure steady growth of wheat. In the early spring, the cracks in the wheat fields can be crushed, and the cracks can be bridged to make the wheat roots closely contact with the soil to prevent cold air from invading and damaging the wheat seedlings. At the same time, repression also has a lifting effect, which can increase the moisture content of the soil surface, which is conducive to the alleviation of low-temperature chilling injury.
(5) Watering in proper amount. Watering ahead of time by cold weather is an effective way to prevent or reduce night frost damage. Watering can increase the humidity of the air near the plant, increase the dew point temperature, and easily cause the condensation of water vapor to release latent heat. According to years of experience, the effect of watering within 5 days before frost is best; watering within 5 to 10 days before frost will suffer from different degrees of frost damage; and there is almost no antifreeze effect when watering more than 10 days before frost. Wheat fields without watering conditions can be smoked and frosted in time when the cold weather arrives, and they also have certain antifreeze effects.
(6) Strengthen post-management. In the period of wheat returning to greenery, 15% paclobutrazol wettable powder per acre 50-60 grams, even spraying, can inhibit the growth of wheat seedlings, enhance cold resistance.
