Once a heart attack occurs, their heart may be damaged and the risk of further problems in their heart increases. But according to a new study, this risk can be reduced by a daily dose of omega-3.

The researchers found that those who insisted on high-dose omega-3 fatty acids daily after 6 months of heart attack recovered well.

Dr. Raymond, a senior author of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and colleagues published their findings in the journal Circulation.

When the part of the blood flowing to the heart muscle is blocked, it causes the heart to be deprived of oxygen, causing damage and attack on the heart.

According to the American Heart Association, the extent to which cardiac muscle damage occurs depends on the size of the area that is deprived of oxygen.

The healing process of the heart begins very quickly after a heart attack and takes an average of 8 weeks. However, this usually involves the formation of scar tissue - or fibrosis - which can alter the structure and function of the heart.

This damage increases the risk of other heart conditions, including irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) and the risk of heart failure.

Dr. Qi and his colleagues pointed out that despite advances in cardiac therapy, heart failure remains a major problem, affecting 5.7 million adults across the United States and killing one in nine people.

For patients with heart attack, daily doses of omega-3 will improve.

In their study, the researchers investigated why omega-3 fatty acids are an effective treatment option for patients with heart attack.

Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to be vital to human health, although the body cannot produce them. Therefore, we need to supplement it with food sources such as oily fish, including salmon, tuna and halibut, plants and nuts and dietary supplements.

Previous studies have found that omega-3 can improve survival after a heart attack, but its mechanism is not well understood.

To further understand, the researchers surveyed 360 adults who had experienced a heart attack.

Six months after the onset of the heart, half of the participants randomly selected about 4 grams of omega-3 per day, while the remaining half took a placebo.

The subject's cardiac structure and function were assessed at the end of the study period and any adverse patient outcomes were monitored during the study. In addition, participants also conducted regular blood tests to ensure that omega-3 was ingested.

Compared with those who took placebo, those who took omega-3 showed a 5.6% reduction in non-impaired cardiac muscle scars and a 5.8% reduction in left ventricular end-systolic volume index.

Based on these results, the researchers believe that taking a dose of omega-3 daily is beneficial for patients with heart attack.

Our results suggest that omega-3 fatty acids are a safe and effective treatment for improving heart remodeling, so it may reduce the incidence of heart failure or death.
