Several Methods for Rejuvenation of Turfgrass

Although turfgrass is perennial, its life span is relatively short. We must take necessary technical measures to extend the lifespan of the lawn as much as possible. Updating rejuvenation is an important nursing job that guarantees lasting turf. It can take several approaches:

Strip update method

For grasses with stolons rooted in segments, such as buffalo grass, zoysiagrass, and Bermudagrass, after a certain number of years, grass roots are densely aged and their ability to spread is degraded. A 50 cm wide piece can be excavated every 50 cm. Peat soil or compost soil, re-stuffed empty strips of land, over a year or two can be filled, and then dig away leaving the 50 cm, so that the cycle can be fully updated in 4 years.

Root-breaking update method

1. Due to soil compaction, which causes degradation of the lawn, we can regularly use the punching machine to tie the lawn ground into many holes on the built lawn. The depth of the hole is about 10 cm. Fertilizer is applied inside the hole to promote new root growth. In addition, it can also be rolled with a three or four centimeter-long nail cylinder, which can also loosen the soil and cut off the old roots. Then it spreads fertilizing soil on the lawn to promote sprouting of new shoots and achieve the purpose of rejuvenation.

2. For some plots with thicker layer of subtilis, soil compaction, uneven density of turfgrass, and longer growth period, rotary root-cultivation and root-cut cultivation measures can be adopted. The method is to use a rotary cultivator to rotate it once more, and then water and fertilize it, which not only achieves the effect of cutting the old root, but also enables the turfgrass to produce many new seedlings.

Replanting turf

For slight bald or local weed invasion, remove the weeds and replant them in a timely manner. Before transplanting the turf, it must be trimmed. After replanting, it should be compacted so that the turf is tightly bound to the soil.

One update method

If the lawn is degraded and bald with more than 80% of its weight, tractors can be used to replant. After planting, conservation management will be strengthened, and the turf that will be replanted will soon be rejuvenated.
